This match will be the last chance for the England team to make their chances alive for qualifying into the Semifinals of the World T20 2016. They has played three group matches so far and has won two matches (against South Africa and Afghanistan) and lost one that to West Indies. Though the team was able to gain a victory over Afghanistan, but the win was not as convincing as they struggled and it has clearly showed the improvements, the team needs to do work on their batting . The win over Sri Lanka will not be enough for them as they can be knocked out if South Africa also win the match against the same opponent on 28 March. So England also need to win with a high margin to strengthen their net run rate in the points table of T20 World Cup 2016.
The former champion Sri Lanka on the other hand has still to play two matches to proceed to the next round. They have played two group matches till now and has lost one to West Indies and won against Afghanistan.
